Tony Anderton Profile
Pilot Tony Anderton. Born and raised in NorthWales Tony has been a Bristol Pilot since 1995, he is one of the first ‘non’ apprentice pilots.
His seagoing career started in 1976 with Sugar line, back in the days of derricks and Decca navigators and progressed to super tankers with Mobil Shipping- He has had sea going experience on bulk carriers, dredgers, tankers and ferries.
Tony spent a year with the Health & Safety Executive as one of HM Inspectors after gaining his Masters ticket in 1988.
He is an unrestricted pilot with an additional pilots authorisation for the River Avon and Bristol city docks.
Additionally, he spent 11 years as a director of the Pilots National Pension fund until 2012 and is currently an executive member of the UK maritime Pilots association, as well as a careers ambassador with the Merchant Navy Training board attending local careers open days. He gives occasional talks to local groups on pilotage and history of the Bristol pilots.
In his spare time, he enjoys walking, road cycling and the odd bit of surf and also teaches indoor studio cycling classes in Portishead.
